International Humanitarian Law Moot
One of the most interesting areas of academia is international and humanitarian law, as both grey areas are affected by changing international relationships, domestic politics and morality. See first-hand what it’s like to be an international lawyer and sign up for the moot, using existing legislation to argue key issues that are morally ambiguous! Don’t miss out or you’ll have to wait till next year!
Registrations close 25 September. Sign up on FB with a team!
OTHER EVENTS OF INTEREST
War, Peace & Women Forum
In this event a panel of experts will be discussing empathetic engagement and peace building in post-conflict areas, addressing the question of how peace can last. The focus of this discussion will centre on a gendered experience of conflict, presenting an interesting perspective that is often neglected in policymaking and conflict crisis reporting by the media.
Register by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. It’s only $10 and the money goes towards assisting and promoting girls education in Afghanistan through scholarship opportunities.
Hophaus Annual Dashhund Race 2016
Has the stress of assignments been getting you down lately? Brighten up your weekend by watching the annual sausage dog race in Southbank. There’s a costume competition and parade starting midday as well. Need I say more? See you there.
This event is on 24 September at 3 Southgate Avenue, Southbank from 11:00AM!
WEEKLY WRAP UP
101 Workshop – How to write a research essay
Last Thursday we were joined by a guest speaker from the LIV who gave us some unique insight into the best ways to writing a great research essay. Also discussed was the importance of using plain language when working with clients who may not be knowledgeable in law. This was a great chance for students to obtain practical insights into professional practice.
Doogue O’Brien George Criminal Law Moot
The preliminaries of the criminal law moot began last week with teams pitting against each other in a test of public speaking, research and teamwork. Mooting is a fantastic way to improve your knowledge in specific areas of law and gives you a taste of what it will be like to practice as a barrister. Stay tuned for the next round of the competition to sit in on the moot and take notes on the best arguments and speaking tactics! Definitely a great way to get an advantage when you sign up for another moot yourself later this semester!
And that’s a wrap!
We hope you’ve enjoyed the events last week and hope you will sign up for the ones to come. After all, law school is what you make of it!
