Would you like to get involved with the LSA?
Joining the LSA Committee is open to anyone that is an enrolled student in any Bachelor of Laws, Juris Doctor or Master of Laws (LLM) program.
Students hoping to join must be willing to serve the interests of law students at La Trobe University through the creation and management of existing events and initiatives for the benefit of the cohort. Additionally, Committee members should have the foresight to add value to the law students cohort through the acquisition of new initiatives and amenities. There are a number of personal and professional benefits that can be attained from joining the Committee. These include the opportunity to widen your circle of friends at university and improve soft skills such as communication, teamwork and time management.
There are a number of ways to join the Committee. The main Committee nomination and elections occur before the Annual General Meeting (AGM), which is in early to mid August each year. Nominations will open for students in the weeks prior the AGM, with an online election commencing after nominations have closed. The results of the election are announced at the AGM, with the incoming Committee to commence on the First Monday in September.
First Year Representative Officer positions will generally open after Law Camp in Semester 1, with a committee by-election used to elect representatives. These positions are only open to first year students and are a great way to get involved in your first Semester of University.
Over the course of every term, vacancies inevitably arise in positions on the Committee. When this occurs, nominations will open at a point after the vacancy has arisen and a by-election will occur to elect a new Committee member.
For further information regarding rules and regulations, please see the La Trobe Law Students’ Association Constitution.
