Careers Week 2017

The La Trobe Law Students’ Association proudly presents the annual Careers Week for 2017 (May 1st-May 11th).

Careers Week encompasses a series of seminars by top and mid-tier commercial law firms, presenting everything you need to know about applying for seasonal clerkships. It is the perfect opportunity to find out more about the firms you might be applying for and hear first hand experiences from graduates or specialists in their field.

Firms will focus on what is required in the application process and what they will be looking for in future seasonal clerks and graduates. In addition, the seminar series provides students with a chance to network with HR representatives and ask questions. Firms will also provide feedback and tips on resume writing, and interview techniques!

Don’t miss the chance to speak with representatives, present your personal brand, and tailor your application before it becomes another number!

Please note that the dress code for all the seminars on campus is smart casual.

Careers Workshop: Cover Letter and Resumes

Cover letters are meant to convey your personality, enthusiasm and professional strengths. Unfortunately, most job applications are caught in the large middle ‘maybe’ pile. Not strong enough to move to ‘yes’, but just enough quality to stay out of ‘no’. It is east to get lost in the middle. With a few changes from this workshop, you can dramatically improve your chances to land in the ‘yes’ category and be invited to continue in the process.

Where: Moot Court (SS 232)

Thursday 4th May
Law Institute of Victoria Seminar

The LIV is a non-for-profit dedicated to benefitting its members and the development, maintenance and the sustenance of the law for the benefit of the community. Established in 2009, the LIV’s Seasonal Clerkship and Traineeship Guidelines ensure consistency and fairness through the legal recruitment process. The Guidelines set out the dates upon which signatories can make offers for seasonal clerkships and graduate positions for the following year.

Law students are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the Guidelines, as well as the legal recruitment process, and this session will help students do that.
