ALSA is a national not-for-profit association comprising all Law Student Societies and Law Students Associations, representing approximately 28,000 law students and acts as the peak representative body for law students in Australia.
As an Australian law student, you are an ALSA member. Your interests are represented by the Law Students' Association President and Vice President (Education), who form part of the ALSA Council.
The core functions of ALSA are:
- To advocate the interests and concerns of Australian law students;
- To gather and disseminate information of interest and concern to Australian law students;
- To facilitate communication and the exchange of information between law student societies, within Australia and abroad; and
- To initiate activities of a social, intellectual, and competitive nature among law students at a national level.
In 2011 La Trobe Law Students’ Association is also represented on the ALSA Committee through Claudia Pirvu (President) in her elected position as ALSA Marketing Officer. ALSA council meets three times a year, twice for council meetings and once for conference. Council meetings last for 3 days and consist of the President and Vice President (Education) from each university LSA. Conference lasts for 8 days and all Australian law students can get involved, whether it be as a competitor representing their university or as a general delegate. |
